Towards the end of 2019, concern was raised in Sinfin that there were plans to convert the local Social Club into a Sikh Gurdwara. The locals were most worried about the loss of this valuable amenity which was available to all.
The view of the wider Sikh community was that it was not necessary, given the 4 already in the Normanton area; it was also felt by them that this initiative was being pursued for the wrong reasons. This was covered in my previous article “Sinfin Moor Social Club : Sikh Gurdwara for Tory votes?”
Subsequently, one of the shareholders of the club intervened, and ensured that the Club was saved from the change of use “Sinfin Moor Social Club saved by local resident and shareholder Sanjeev Chopra”
Further developments, now means that the Sinfin Moor Social Club will soon have new owners who intend to open it and start trading as soon as possible. They will be carrying out comprehensive works to ensure it has a prosperous future and create a vibrant local facility for the residents of Sinfin and Stenson Fields.
Sohan Perdesi is purchasing the lease and will be operating the social club with his sons. It was their local before it closed. The family’s main intention is to leave it as a social club and to reinvigorate it and meet the community’s needs.
Previously Sohan purchased, refurbished and operated the Queens Hall with his son Rick on London Road.
The immediate plans for the club are;
- Refresh the exterior by introducing new signage and lighting
- Extend and install a new kitchen with the intention of serving hot and cold food in the near future
- Installing new beer lines, coolers and pumps throughout
- Re-starting the Pool, Snooker, Darts & Football Teams – And more if the community wants
- Creating a family atmosphere for all to enjoy
The banqueting suite is dilapidated and requires a major refurbishment; this will be done to a high specification, as he did with the Queens Hall. The refurbishment will include
- Full draping to create welcoming room
- Full LED Lighting
- Fully Air Condition the room so its comfortable in all seasons
This is with a view to holding large events such as; Charity Events, Comedy Nights, Christmas Parties and Celebrity Meet & Greets as well as to be available for Private Functions.
“I am really looking forward to getting the Club open and running. I have been a regular in the club for many years and I can see it has huge potential. I’d like to thank Sanj Chopra for saving the club. Now it’s time to get it re-opened for the whole community to use as a Social Club, we will keep the community updated and will open up as soon as we safely can”
