Derby City Council

Full copy of the Labour Group “motion” calling for Banwait ” to resign with immediate effect”

This is the full transcript of the “motion”, written by Cllr Pegg, tabled at the Labour Group meeting on Tuesday night….and voted upon.

It is self-explanatory…

“It is with regret that I feel that I must write this open letter to the Labour Group and especially the Leader of Derby Labour Party and Leader of Derby City Council Councillor Ranjit Banwait.

I am calling upon the Leader, Councillor Ranjit Banwait to resign with immediate effect as both the Leader of Derby Labour Party and the Leader of Derby City Council to secure any future that the Labour Party may have in Derby.

Many of you work far harder than I do on the door steps, hand on hearts how many of you have been told by known Labour Party supporters that they will not vote for Labour again while Banwait is the Leader?

Councillor Banwait has failed to unite the group, but instead has caused its fragmentation

His style of leadership and control is why members prefer not to attend group meetings

Under his Leadership the Cabinet meetings are held behind closed doors with no transparency on decision making whatsoever.

Papers like the libraries come to the group without [out] any real substance in them and we are expected to follow the leader and cabinets decisions without any real answers

I seem to remember when the trips to China were being arranged that the leader told us there was no expense to the Council and that the cost were being covered by the industries etc. I was told personally by Councillor Banwait that the trip to China with Derby County was being paid for by the club.

So why all of a sudden has the £15,000 China trip expense come from?

The people of Derby fully understand why as a Council we have had to make certain cuts and in the main they accept it.

What the people of Derby don’t do is trust the Leader and sadly we are all being tarred with the same brush.

Hard working Councillors are going to lose their seats at the forth coming elections

Never should we lose seats to the Conservatives in Derwent. Dave Roberts losing his seat to UKIP is understandable, Dave wasn’t well and UKIP was on the accent [ascent] plus Bill Wright was well known in the ward.

It’s like losing control in Nottingham.

The only chance that the Labour Party in Derby  may have of not being totally wiped out is for the Leader to resign with immediate effect.”

  1. Shocking, that it was written by someone who won’t apologise to an organisation or anyone else for that matter! However, it shouldn’t just be the Leader that should resign, what about PCC/Councillor Dhinsa, forever a walking contradiction. Councillor Pegg, I did all this, even though I didn’t. Councillor Rawson, it cost more than I previously mentioned. Councillor Raju, who can’t be contacted by anyone. These are just a few, but the other Labour councillors shouldn’t hold their heads up either as they also have let down the people of Derby with their attitudes, towards releasing relevant information that can be scrutinised by other Party councillors and the people of Derby.

  2. secure any future that the Labour Party may have in Derby. Labour do not have a future in Derby, all the Labour Councillors followed the Leader when voting e.g Cafe in Alvaston Park, TA dispute. just the tip of Labours Problems, Derby is not the same City as it used to be under this Labour Council.
