Council’s Neighbourhood Team plans “Christmas Cheer” for 850+ of Derby’s elderly, lonely and isolated

In previous years, many of Derby’s wards arranged Christmas dinner events for 30-70 elderly, lonely and isolated people in the City. In the current Covid climate these are not possible.

So,  rather than taking the people to the venue, the Council’s Neighbourhood Team plans to take the venue to the people –  the  “Christmas Cheer” project …with a zero budget!

The Neighbourhood team, led jointly by Sharon Sewell and Sarah Dosunmu, is Claire Briggs, Jonathan Till, Jamie Robinson, Steph Holt,  Beckie Hudson, and Lorraine Dryden; between them, they cover all Neighbourhood activities across Derby’s 17 wards.

The Neighbourhood Team will be co-ordinating, facilitating and managing the whole “Christmas Cheer”  project with the active support, time, energy, goodwill and financial contributions from many organisations and people  in Derby.

Christmas Cheer” will be brought to 850+ people across Derby, referred by a number of local agencies.

[Referrals have been obtained from:

  • Community Action – Covid response hub and volunteer hub for volunteers;
  • Councillors;
  • Derby Homes – Intensive Tenancy Support Teams, Housing Managers;

” People have wanted to help. Times are so difficult at the moment, it’s just a lovely thing to get involved in”

The Project will finally deliver in the 5 days starting Monday 14th December, and Derby News will be there to capture this remarkable series of events.

Good luck to the 8 people in the Neighbourhood Team and the hundreds of people they have brought together to deliver “Christmas Cheer” to the 850+ people in the City
