The annual St George’s Day parade, together with quirky, quintessentially English, side-shows, took place today down St Peter’s Street and in the Market Place. There were a variety of dancers – Morris, and Daleks, amongst many others, archery, a magician…and a re-enactment of the St George and Dragon slaying tale.
A family-based civic event was used as an opportunity for the Leader of the Council, Ranjit Banwait, to detail for the audience, the myriad of events that were in the Derby Live programme for 2017, including re-vitalising the Xmas lights switch on….as last year it was, apparently, “disappointing”.
There was a significant attendance last year; numbers were drastically down today – with the Market Place being very barren ( away from the “fountain”) -possibly due to St George’s Day being tomorrow. Nonetheless, a lot of effort put in by many groups and the Derby Live team….to mark this important English occasion.
