Cllr Banwait fails to turn up to present his keynote speech on “political engagement”

Earlier in the year Dr Patrick Boateng of local charity JEM ( Jobsearch-Education-Mentoring) was contacted by an officer from the Palace of Westminster to run an event to coincide with Parliament week.  Members of the local community were invited, and Cllr Ranjit Banwait was asked to present on the subject of the “democratic process and political engagement”.  Cllr Banwait accepted the invitation a few months ago; a further confirmation email was sent to him and his PA in the last few weeks.

The attendees waited with anticipation for Cllr Banwait to arrive but there was no show, and no apologies.

The conversation over lunch broached a number of issues about how politicians seem to forget who they serve, and how they lose sight of their purpose. Many interesting questions, in fact, which could have been put to Cllr Banwait, directly, and which would have led to a lively dialogue.

On reflection, his non-attendance was probably a subtle metaphor for his views on “political engagement”?

  1. It’s about time councillor banwait resigns from the council and let someone else do his job if he can’t keep date that he agreed on
