With over 2.3 million signatures on the Stop-TTIP petition, the giant “blow-up pencil” came to St Peter’s cross in the centre of Derby. Accompanied by an NHS ambulance it brought to the attention of the casual shoppers of the City the problems of TTIP and encouraged them to sign the petition – which many did. The petition is now fast approaching 3 million signatures.
TTIP stands for Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. It will remove certain regulatory barriers and the concern is that NHS services will be contracted to US companies thus potentially resulting in more profit-motivated services in the Health service; common sense, experience and intuition suggests that this will make matters worse for patient care and not better. True Health care cannot be provided in an environment where profit matters!
