Job Seekers Allowance sanctions in Derby
Data taken from the last 3 years ( to September 2015) across all Derby City Job Centres. Either the Job Centres are less “trigger-happy”, or the Job Seekers are wiser to the rules, but certainly this is a sustained reduction compared to 2-3 years ago. This is supported by the anecdotal feedback from Food Banks that sanctioning, itself, is less of an issue. It is more around delays in benefit payments ( which will be made worse by Universal Credit), and poor in-work pay, or unreliable pay ( e.g. zero hours contracts).
